Hooda Urges WB To Approve Proposals Worth Rs 12,348.79 Cr For Infrastructure Growth

Haryana Government is seeking a financial help of Rs 12,348.79 crore from Bhupinder Singh Hoodathe World Bank for infrastructure growth of the state.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, together with senior governmental officers, made a demand to this effect at a meeting with a 19-member delegation of the World Bank.

For implementation of projects of roads, the state government has sought financial assistance of Rs 15,587.97 crore, for power projects Rs 3,803.98 crore has been demanded and Rs 2,956.84 crore for water supply and sanitation projects.

Mr. Hooda asked the World Bank for early finalization of its assistance and grants for Haryana’s projects.

The government’s aims to achieve all-around growth of the state in agriculture, industrialisation and infrastructure development plus social growth in health and education, he said.

The Power Sector plan made by Mr. Hooda to the World Bank included reformation, modernization and upgradation of generation plants in addition to transmission and distribution sshemes.

The Central Government had recommended the proposal to the WB in December.

According to the sources, the project would be for five years from 2008 to 2013.The environment and social strategy for the project is being set up. The bids for transmission and distribution schemes are likely to be invited by September 2008.

The road project proposed to the WB involves up-gradation of mainly State Highways and major district roads. On the other hand, the wide-ranging project of Water Supply and Sanitation plans to cover up 54 towns.
