Hubble Servicing Mission Delayed By NASA
On Monday, NASA informed about the postponing of Hubble servicing mission till next year due to some problem occurring with the Hubble Space Telescope. Meanwhile, the telescope will be going for repairs at observatory. Earlier this trip was due to be launched within two weeks on 14th October.
The Hubble mission now has been postponed till February and this time, NASA will pull up its socks to test and fly a spare computer to fix the problem.
Hubble manager Preston Burch informed during a conference call with the reporters that they would be too pressurized if the launch is earlier than February.
The problem attached to Hubble mission is the fault in the computer that gathers and formats the data from the telescope to be sent to the scientist on the ground. However, on Saturday, this device failed, thus suspending operations of Hubble.
The team of engineers is planning to “switch to a backup system on the telescope and test a spare on the ground to see whether it is still suited for space flight,” stated Burch.
Within a week, it is expected that Hubble will be able to get back with the observations.
