Hyundai all set to roll out diesel variant of i20 on July 7Jazzed up, pepped up by the superb response of the petrol version of its super-hatch Hyundai i20, Hyundai is all set to roll out the diesel variant of Hyundai i20 on 7th July, 2009, in India

The diesel variant of Hyundai i20 is expected to be powered with a 1.4 litre Common Rail Direct Fuel Injection (CRDI) engine, and the new diesel i20 is expected to be around 15-20 percent costlier than the petrol i20. However, in comparison with the petrol i20, the new diesel i20 is expected to be offering improved fuel economy and meliorated drivability with higher torque output of its diesel engine. Hyundai India has not revealed the engine specifications and other details about new diesel i20 yet.  

The i20 with 1.4 litre diesel engine will qualify for the small car excise norms. The car will compete with Ford Fusion, Maruti Swift (diesel), Ritz (diesel), Skoda Fabia, Fiat Grande Punto, etc. The new diesel i20 is expected to be priced between Rs 5.75 – 7.75 lakh. The current petrol i20 in the Indian market is priced between Rs 479,900 – Rs 581,900.

According to reports, with the launch of the diesel variant of Hyundai i20, Hyundai India is also likely to roll out new petrol variant of the i20, equipped with a 1.4 litre engine; an automatic version of the new car is also expected.

Hyundai is already selling i20 powered with 1.4 lire and 1.6 litre diesel engines in the international market.
