Incessant rain and poor drainage system cause difficulties to people of KolkataKolkata, July 14 : Incessant rain over the past few days coupled with poor drainage system has caused difficulties to people of Kolkata as they have to face water logging on the roads, and are exposed to outbreak of diseases as the rain has flooded their houses.

“We are facing a lot of problems, children are not able to go to their schools, and even office goers are facing difficulties. Moreover, insects and other slimy creatures have started coming out," said Sharmishtha, another resident.

The rainwater has entered houses in most parts of the city and has badly affected city slums.

People living in the low lying areas complained that the slightest of downpour can flood their houses due to lack of infrastructure facilities in the region. The incessant rain has flooded the houses leaving the utensils and other household items afloat.

Sahagal, a resident of Golf Gardens said: "Ever since big buildings have come up, the entire rain water is collected here."

Kolkata, sometimes referred to as ''the city of Joy'' is reeling under the sorrows of water spreading havoc with insects and other small slimy creatures coming out of the ground.

Meteorological department has predicted more rainfall in the region in the next 24 hours. It said that a cyclonic circulation over the Gangetic area is sucking in moisture from the Bay of Bengal, which, in turn is causing heavy rainfall. (ANI)
