Indian duos storms in to semifinals
India's men's and women's doubles duos have made into the semifinals of the New Zealand Open Grand Prix badminton tournament in Auckland on Thursday. Both pairs registered win in totally contrasting ways in their quarterfinal matches.
Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas duo faced a tough competition in the match against Indonesian pair of Wifqi Windarto and Afiat Yuris Wirawan in the men's double event. They raced away with the three setter match 21-16, 20-22, 21-17. They will now lock horns with the third seeded Malaysian pair of Teik Chai Gan and Bin Shen Tan in the semifinal match.
However, Indian duo of Aparna Balan and Shruti Kurian did not give any chance to Kiwi pair of Michelle K. Y. Chan and Rachel Hindley in the women's double event. They continued their dominance throughout the match and reached into the semifinals after defeating their opponents 21-7, 21-14.
In the semifinal encounter, they will take on the top seeded pair of Tsz Ka Chan and Ying Suet Tse of Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, Aparna and Arun Vishnu duo went down to Tontowi Ahmad and Richi Puspita Dilli of Indonesia 21-14, 21-11 in the quarterfinal match in the mixed double event.
