Indian Kathak dancers charm Lahoris

Lahore, Nov 27: A group of five Indian Kathak dancers enthralled audiences in Lahore with their performances recently.

Rekha Adhikari, Monisa Nayak, Arti Sharma, Sujneet Kaur and Sharmista Mukherjee exhibited three forms of Kathak - Mand Kal, Mughal Kal and Rang Manj Kal.

The Kathak compositions by Mukherjee were liked by one and all.

In the eastern classical composition, the dancers portrayed a perfect co-ordination among themselves and with the music.

The expressions, costumes, jewellery and movements invigorated the audience, earning the artistes laud applause.

A Kathak performance on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's mesmerising Qawali "Tause Naina Milayike" was a treat for the spectators. This composition embodied a sufi spirit which related to Hindu, Muslim and Christian forms of worship.

Another performance was a Kathak on Bach, which spoke of the dancers' avid pursuance of the art.

All artistes are students of Kathak since childhood and are also active in developing new forms of the traditional dance, Daily Times reported.

All the five dancers appreciated the warmth and affection they received in Lahore. (ANI)
