Infosys may soon reach settlement with U.S. over visa fraud issue

Infosys may soon reach settlement with U.S. over visa fraud issueInfosys, India's second-biggest information technology (IT) services exporter, on Tuesday confirmed that it was in the process of reaching a settlement with the U. S. authorities over the alleged misuse of temporary business visas by the firm.

The U. S. Justice Department has been probing the Indian IT firm for around two years over allegations that the outsourcing firm used thousands of temporary visas to bring in employees. Many U. S. policymakers are demanding action against such firms, arguing that this practice is hurting the American job market.

Announcing the ongoing process of finding a resolution, Infosys said, "In response to reports attributed to Justice Department officials, Infosys is in the process of completing a civil resolution with the government regarding its investigation of visa issues and I-9 documentation errors."

It may be noted here that so-called I-9 forms are filled to verify the identity of employees and their authorization to work in the U. S.

However, Infosys denied any allegations of pursuing systemic visa fraud or misusing visas for gaining competitive advantage.

According to a report published by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), a resolution could be announced as soon as Wednesday. However, Infosys said a resolution had yet to be finalized.
