Inspite of Poor Health Queenslanders Claim Fitness

A new survey has revealed that despite the fact that most people acknowledge the presence of at least 1 serious risk factor in their lifestyles, most continue to think that they are in good shape and healthy.

The revelation is based on a telephone survey conducted on about 7000 Queensland residents, all aged 18 years and older. It was discovered that over 50% of the participants admitted to being overweight or obese, inspite of a countrywide active drive about the ill-effects of excess weight, but despite this, 85% continue to rate their health as "excellent, very good or good".

Detailed answers, however, managed to reveal the fragility of these claims.

Less than 1 in 10 people admitted that they ate the recommended "five servings of vegetables and two of fruit every day", and only about 32.5% of the participants said that they exercised as much as required.

About a third reported that they had high cholesterol and 28.6% confessed that they were suffering from high blood pressure.

The state's acting Chief Health Officer, Christine Selvey, has shared that she is highly concerned that the society has become so used to people being overweight and obese.
