It's a matter of great honour to be brand ambassador of Telangana: Sania Mirza

Sania-MirzaHyderabad, July 25 : Tennis star Sania Mirza said here on Friday that for her it is a matter of great honour to be the brand ambassador of Telangana.

"For me it's a matter of great honour and I am very humbled that the honorable CM and the state though that I was worthy enough to represent the state. As far as representing the state worldwide and bringing it on the map I am sure there are more meetings and strategies that we will discuss but I think me representing Hyderabad, Telangana and most importantly India when I am playing is already representing the state in many ways. I think I have been doing that for many years I hope I can continue doing that," said Mirza.

Over the controversy of Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader K Laxman opposing her appointment as the rand ambassador by saying that she was Pakistan's daughter-in-law, she said that it's pretty much done and there is no point talking about it now.

Reacting to badminton player Saina Nehwal's tweet where she had expressed disappointment over the controversy, Mirza said, "I can't say that sportspersons are not treated very well by Government of India. I spoke to KTR this morning, and he said that he has already replied to her tweet. I hope she gets what she deserves. With a CM like ours, he is moving forward and will surely take it forward."

Sania Mirza was declared the ambassador of the newly formed state of Telangana recently, but Telangana BJP leader K Laxman opposed her appointment, saying that she was Pakistan's daughter-in-law. (ANI)
