Jaipur doctors save world’s lightest babyJaipur, Oct. 24 : Doctors in Jaipur have successfully saved the world''s lightest baby, who was kept on a ventilator for over a month since his birth.

The baby, who was born on July 21, weighed 682 grams at the time of birth, which decreased to 447 grams due to a lung infection.

“The male child''s weight during treatment reached to 447 grams making it the world''s lightest baby. We believe that during that period it faced many problems as its lungs were immature because of which we had to inject surfactant injection.

“The baby was under ventilators for almost 38 days. The best thing was that inspite of having so many problems like lack of nutrition it is now neurologically fine and the child is now having mother''s milk," said Dr. Dhananjay Mangal of Babylon hospital.

The doctors of the hospital have now recommended the baby’s name to the Limca Books of Records.

Deepika Chaturvedi, the baby''s mother, had given birth to twin boys during 26th week of pregnancy. The doctors couldn''t save his twin.

The parents and the family members of the baby now feel proud of him as he survived despite of severe medical problems.

"It is difficult to express our feeling. We are happy that it is the world''s lightest baby according to weight. The best thing is that it is survived as we had lost hope. Doctors had said that chances of the baby''s survival were very low but it''s their hard work and we are thankful to them," said Deepika Chaturvedi, mother of the child.
