Cologne, Germany - Midfielder Sami Khedira will make his debut for Germany in Saturday's friendly international against South Africa in Cologne.

Assistant coach Hansi Flick said Friday the VfB Stuttgart under-21 international would play either from the beginning or come on during the game.

Werder Bremen's Mesut Ozil will play from the start in an attacking midfield role, Flick said.

Ozil's two previous caps have come as a substitute.

Both Khedira, 22, and Ozil, 20, were members of the Germany side that won the under-21 European Championships in June.

The South Africa friendly is the last test opportunity for coach Joachim Loew ahead of Germany's final three World Cup qualifiers, beginning with Azerbaijan in Hanover on Wednesday. (dpa)
