Kidney of an 11-year old goes missingThe recent case of missing kidney of an 11-year old has once again sparked the issue of organ trade. Police are presently investigating the case reported by father of the child.

Babuli Nath, a native of Tirtol in Jagatsinghpur district, has complained that a kidney of his son Abinash has gone missing after the operation. The boy was operated for removal of his appendix at a private clinic in Cuttack in October, 2006. Abinash complained of pain in the abdomen this year. Two separate ultra sonography tests showed that his right kidney was missing.

A medical team led by superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital has formed to examine Abinash and submit a report. Meanwhile the police questioned Dr BN Mishra, who had conducted the appendicitis operation on the boy. Police also seized some documents relating to the admission and treatment details of the Abinash. But Mishra denied the allegations regarding theft of kidney during operation.

DCP (Cuttack) A N Sinha said: "The investigation has begun but as there are several technicalities involved in this case we shall have to depend on the medical reports. The medical reports will answer various questions. Thereafter, we will decide the future course of action."
