Kids who have head lice should not skip school: Report

The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued a report that claims children who have head lice must go to school instead of staying home.

This news is shock for numerous parents who frequently keep their child home for days. According to experts, head lice is not a major health hazard. As per report, they can only be spread with very close head-to-head contact and in the majority of cases are not even contracted at school. In Harrison County, medical experts said that school system wants students to stay away until they are receive treatment.

"The nits remain glued to the hair. They may be hatched nits and just an empty shell, but they cling to the hairs and you have no way of knowing if it's exactly a dead or alive nit", said Margaret Howe-White, Nursing Director at Clarksburg-Harrison Co. Health Dept. Margaret Howe-White also said that the school system at present has the child remain out of school until they are nit free.

According to some parents, they are uncomfortable with the idea of keeping their kids in class. According to the experts, education and taking steps is the most vital thing when it is about treating lice. The experts also said that over-the-counter treatments are accessible and antibiotics could be prescribed.

According to new guidelines in the American Academy of Pediatrics, lice are not accountable for the spread of diseases, so children can stay in the classroom. Physician's assistant at Pediatric Choice physician assistant Kristi Crabtree said that as long as they have been treated they are safe to return to school the next day.
