Dusseldorf, Germany - Philip Kohlschreiber battled for more than two hours Wednesday to lift Germany to a perfect 2-0 record at the ARAG World Team Championships with his 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-3 comeback win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
The Frenchman who played the 2008 Australian Open final at the eight-nation event was unable to consolidate after claiming the opening set in 57 minutes at the Rochusclub, his behind-the-back winner early in the contest eventually going for nought.
Kohlschreiber's win, coupled with Tuesday's defeat of Gilles Simon by Rainer Schuettler, put the host nation into an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the tie.
The result keeps the side in Red group contention for the Saturday final with a concluding group clash with Sweden the last hurdle.
The Scandinavians secured their victory on Tuesday over the winless US to earn a 2-0 record for the week.
In the rival Blue group, Argentine Maximo Gonzalez was substituting for Juan Monaco, who pulled out of a singles rubber against Italian Simone Bolelli with a wrist injury.
Serbia was to wrap up proceedings in doubles after an early win against Serbia a day earlier through singles success from Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki. (dpa)
