Kuerten gets better of Moya in friendly matchRio de Janeiro, Oct 9 - Brazilian tennis great Gustavo "Guga" Kuerten beat former rival Carlos Moya in the 2011 International Challenge, a friendly competition between the two players.

With individual set scores of 6-4, 2-6 and 6-3, Guga eased to a 2-1 set victory ovre his Spanish native Saturday.

Both are former No. 1 ranked players in the ATP Tour. They faced each other seven times in their professional careers with Guga winning four times to Moya's three, Xinhua reported.

Guga said that one of his dearest memories as a professional was his victory over Moya in the 1998 Davis Cup. Conversely, Moya recalled one of his famous wins win over Kuerten in the 1999 Indian Wells that propelled him to the top of th ATP rankings.

Guga thanked the crowd for their support in what is Gustavo Kuerten Week in Florianopolis and for raising awareness and money for his social project, the Gustavo Kuerten Institute.

As a part of Gustavo Kuerten Week, he has orchestrated a tournament for tennis players restricted to wheel chairs as well as a junior's tournament, the Gustavo Kuerten Cup, both set to begin Sunday. (IANS)
