Land transportation official, brother killed in Philippines
Iligan City, Philippines - A regional land transportation official and his brother were killed Thursday in an attack in the southern Philippines, a city police chief said.
Ali Datumanong and his brother Akrab were shot to death by two motorcycle-riding gunmen in Iligan City, 810 kilometres south of Manila, according to Senior Superintendent Bernardo Reamon.
Datumanong, an assistant district officer of the Land Transportation Office, and his brother were aboard a van on the way to the office when the gunmen blocked the path of their vehicle and opened fire.
Reamon said the two victims died upon arrival at a nearby hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Police investigators were looking into office rivalry as the possible motive behind the attack. (dpa)
