Leander Steps Down As Indian Davis Cup Captain

Leander Paes has decided not to play as a captain of the Indian team in the Leander Steps Down As Indian Davis Cup Captain forthcoming Davis cup tournament. The tournament is scheduled in September. SP Misra is expected to act as a non-playing captain for the team. SP Misra has expressed happiness on his appointment. He termed it as an honor for him to lead the team of two great champion players and two highly talented youngsters. The first mach will be played against Romania. The team will include Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, Somdev Dev Varman and Prakash Amritraj.

Leander Paes has informed All India Tennis Association (AITA) Secretary General Anil Khanna about his step down as captain of the team. The meeting of sports body was held in Beijing just after the Olympics doubles tennis event. Paes is expected to step down as captain following revolt from co-players including Mahesh Bhuapthi, Rohan Bopanna and Prakash Amritraj.

The newly appointed captain said that he will do his best to win the tournament. The selection committee has dropped Bopanna for poor performance.
