At least three killed, one injured in northern Iraq
A member of the al-Qaeda terrorist network, an Iraqi policemen and his brother were killed, while an Iraqi woman was injured in separate attacks in northern Iraq, US forces and media reports said Saturday.
In a statement, the US military said forces had uncovered an al- Qaeda hideout near Biaj, some 130 kilometres south-east of the northern city of Mosul.
The location contained "a dozen of bedrolls, stockpiled food, men's clothing and signs that it was a terrorist hideout," said the statement.
US forces shot dead a man who had refused orders to surrender.
Meanwhile, US forces detained 15 suspected terrorists around Mosul, 400 kilometres north of Baghdad, on Friday and Saturday, the statement said.
Separately, Khalid Abdul-Sattar, spokesman of Nineveh's operations, told the Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency that the Iraqi army had discovered a weapons cache in a house in central Mosul.
Abdul-Sattar said that armed forces conducted an inspection operation in the Farouq area of Mosul, where a large weapons cache had been found.
An Iraqi woman was injured when a bomb detonated in Darkazliya district, the Iraq's al-Iraqia television reported.
Sources said that the woman has been moved to a nearby hospital.
In other news, sources told VOI that militants killed an Iraqi policeman and his brother while they were moving around some districts leading to Mosul's Sirgkhana area.
Sources said one of the dead was a police officer, while the other was a former policeman. (dpa)
