Lebanese army and UN forces start investigating Hezbollah blastBeirut - The Lebanese army and the United Nations Forces in southern Lebanon on Tuesday began investigating the reasons behind a rocket blast overnight that rocked a village east of the southern port city of Tyre and wounded one person, army and UN sources said.

A Lebanese security source said Tuesday that Abdel Nasser Issa, a Hezbollah member, had apparently stored the rocket, which dates back to the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel, in the garage of his home in Tayr Felsay.

Conflicting reports Monday night said the device exploded as Issa was trying to defuse the bomb.

The blast prompted the Israeli army to warn that Hezbollah members are still hiding arms inside their homes, thus violating UN resolution 1701, which ended the 33-day campaign by Israel against Hezbollah forces in Lebanon in July 2006.

"The Israeli army has asked the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to launch an investigation," it said in a statement.

A July explosion in an abandoned building in another southern village was said to have been caused by a fire in a secret Hezbollah arms depot. The militant group said at the time that the building housed ammunition left over from Israeli attacks on Lebanon during the July war. (dpa)
