According to authorities, lifeguards in Hollywood, Fla., were urging beach goers to stay out of the water at a city beach Friday after high bacteria levels were found.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has reported that a recording on the city's Beach Safety Division telephone line said a two-block section of beach was affected.
The recording said, "If you do come to the beach today, please sit by an occupied lifeguard tower. Ask our personnel; they'll be happy to answer any of your questions."
The Broward County Health Department said that levels of bacteria in samples of beach water collected from the site were higher than what the state considers safe.
Officials have said that the bacteria could cause swimming-related gastroenteritis. (With Inputs from Agencies)
