Maruti to touch one crore by March 2011As Maruti Suzuki announced the sale of one million units in a fiscal year on the March 23rd by the production of the red Swift from its Manesar plant, the company is now well poised to touch a cumulative figure more than 10 million Maruti cars running on the Indian roads by March 2011.

For the uninitiated, the company has so far sold almost 88.1 lakh units in the domestic market. Inala Veerabhadra Rao, managing executive officer (engineering), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd confirmed the development as he said that the company should be able to achieve this target by March next year.

However, almost 70% of the total units of the Maruti cars running on the Indian roads have come from products like M800, Alto, Omni and Wagon R in the Indian market.

The company has far produced and sold 26 lakh M800, 13 lakh Omni, 8.5 lakh Wagon R and over 15 lakh Alto cars in the Indian market. However, with the stricter BSIV norms coming into picture from April 1, 2010 Maruti Suzuki has decided to stop the production Maruti 800 from the 13 major Indian cities.
