Match called off due to water-logged pitch
Nuremberg, Germany - Friday's Bundesliga match between struggling Nuremberg and visiting VfL Wolfsburg was abandoned at half-time due to a water-logged pitch.
Torrential downpours caused the pitch to become unplayable and referee Jochen Drees decided after a 45 minute delay during the break that the conditions made it impossible to restart.
Nuremberg were leading 1-0 at the time after Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio dropped a long-range effort from Ivan Saenko into his own goal in the 34th minute.
Earlier Wolfsburg's Brazilian midfielder Marcelinho saw his penalty saved by Nuremberg goalkeeper Jaromir Blazek.
The ruling body DFB will have to decide when the match will be replayed.
Bayern Munich, who are at home to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, have a nine-point lead over Schalke 04, who are away to fourth-placed Werder Bremen on Saturday. SV Hamburg, who are third, face bottom club MSV Duisburg. (dpa)
