Menopause symptoms may significantly reduced by Soy sauce

Menopause symptoms may significantly reduced by Soy sauceJapanese scientists have said that Soy sauce could reduce menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, sleeplessness and bone loss.

The Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday that the researchers at the National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Tokyo say they found soy sauce, made from soya beans, contains a natural compound that cuts production of oestrogen, a hormone that contributes to menopausal problems.

In the July issue of the Journal of Nutrition, the researchers said soy could become an alternative to hormone-replacement therapy to treat menopausal discomfort and possibly bone loss.

Women who consumed soy produced a chemical called S-equol, which halted bone loss and fat accumulation in women early in menopause, the institute researchers have said.

According to the researchers, after taking a soy-based supplement containing S-equol for only three months, women suffered fewer menopause symptoms such as hot flashes and neck and shoulder stiffness. (With Inputs from Agencies)
