Merck Specialities, 100% arm of German-based pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA, has announced that it has purchased bioscience firm Bangalore Genei India Pvt. Ltd (BGIP) for an undisclosed sum.

BGIP is a division of south India-based Sanmar Group. The firm engages in the development, production, marketing in addition to sales of products for proteomic and genomic research.

The sources informed that the bioscience firm has clocked revenue of Rs 20 crore in fiscal 2008-09.

Merck is a worldwide pharmaceutical as well as chemical conglomerate with total revenues of $11.20 billion in fiscal 2008.
