Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox may reportedly feature deeply-integrated Skype support

Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox may reportedly feature deeply-integrated Skype supportAccording to a CVG report, citing the information passed on by an unidentified `inside' source, Xbox Live voice chat will likely give way to deeply-integrated Skype support in the next-generation Xbox gaming console from Microsoft.

As per the CVG source, the Xbox 360 successor - dubbed Xbox 720, which will probably be unveiled at the E3 event this year - will apparently have Skype serving as the default chat service, rather than Xbox Live voice chat.

While making the disclosure about Skype integration in the next Xbox version, the CVG source said that Microsoft has plans underway in the direction of "consolidating all their communications technology," in all probability, around the Skype platform, which the software giant acquired in 2011 for $8.5 billion (£5.4 billion).

With Microsoft steadily making Skype default chat service across all its platforms, the source further added: "You might jump to the conclusion that we'll see asynchronous voice and video messages in next-gen Xbox Live."

Despite the fact that there has been no official statement from Microsoft about Skype landing on the next-generation Xbox, the CVG report is somewhat substantiated by the fact that the company has, in a recent job vacancy, advertised the post of a user interface designer; and has listed the working location as Microsoft's Skype offices in the UK!
