Mini LPG cylinders will be of great help for BPO employees and others

LPG-cylindersThe launch of 5-kg cooking gas (LPG) cylinders in Delhi will be of great help for an emerging segment of new consumers like IT professionals and BPO employees who do not have proper proof of address, which is necessary to receive standard LPG connection.

Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily is all set to launch sale of mini LPG cylinders at petrol pumps in the national capital.

An official from the petroleum ministry said, "There is an emerging segment of new consumers like IT professionals, BPO employees who want LPG but in absence of proper proof of address cannot access the same."

Traditionally, OMCs enroll customers through their LPG distributor networks by collecting proof of identity and address plus a deposit for the cylinder and regulator. But, people in transferable jobs often face difficulties in completing the whole process. Those who are on temporary duties often proof of address in the city of their work.

Moreover, due to their irregular work timings, BPO employees may not be able to receive their cylinders during normal working hours.

As the mini cylinders will be available at petrol pumps around the clock, even on Sunday, IT professionals, BPO employees and other people can buy gas anytime without any formalities.

However, no subsidy will be available on the mini cylinders. The 5-kg LPG cylinder will cost Rs 543 in Delhi. In comparison, the standard 14.2-kg subsidised cylinder costs just Rs 414 in the national capital.
