London, October 2 : Late King of Pop Michael Jackson’s previously unheard song ‘This Is It’ is expected to Sir Elton John’s Princess Diana tribute ‘Candle In The Wind’ in terms of sales.
Sony Music hopes to achieve sales of more than 50million worldwide, compared to the 37million notched up by Sir Elton John’s song.
If the label’s expectations come true, it will signal a “global explosion” of new material from the king of pop, who died on June 25.
On October 28, a documentary film made from 100 hours of footage of ‘This Is It’ rehearsals at LA’s Staples Centre will hit cinemas.
Two days before that, a double CD based on the film, with new arrangements of many of his hits, will be released.
Jackson’s ‘Number Ones’ album is already the year’s top seller.
“Anything from Jackson is going to be a significant seller, especially new material such as ‘This Is It’,” the Daily Star quoted Keith Caulfield, of US magazine Billboard, as saying.
It is also set to beat the other two singles tied with Sir Elton at top spot – Bing Crosby’s Silent Night and White Christmas. (ANI)
