Movie review: ‘De Dana Dan’

De Dana DanHitting the Indian screens today, November 27, is the latest Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer 'De Dana Dan' - a film which is yet another slapstick comedy, directed by Priyadarshan.

The story of the film revolves around a debt-ridden driver Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar), and a courier boy, Ram Mishra (Sunil Shetty). Both of them, though poor, are lucky in love - their rich girlfriends respectively being Anjali (Katrina Kaif), and Manpreet (Sameera Reddy).

Given an ultimatum by their girlfriends that either they earn big money, so that they can elope, or forget about them completely, Nitin and Ram decide to make some quick bucks the easy way - kidnapping! They plan to kidnap Moolchandji, the much-pampered dog of rich brat Archana (Archana Puran Singh).

Thereafter, what follows is a Priyadarshan-style commotion, a comedy of errors, and a mind-boggling cross-connection of characters - all of whom have checked-in at five-star hotel.

The film also features Paresh Rawal, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Joshi, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, and Asrani among a host of others. Besides comedy, one of the highlights of the film is a 'hot' rain dance sequence, filmed on the lead pair Akshay and Katrina.

The quickie flick, which has suffered a promotional handicap due to Katrina's ill health, will likely have a good opening at the box-office. However, the apparently hastily-written swift 'De Dana Dan' story is, at times, confusion abound --- and commotion galore!
