Murray rues 'running out of legs' in defeat to Djokovic in US Open quarters

Andy-MurrayLondon, Sep 05 : British number one Andy Murray has said that he was disappointed that world number one Novak Djokovic had proved physically better than him in their US Open quarterfinal clash.

Eighth seed Murray lost 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 6-4 to Djokovic in three hours and 32 minutes at Flushing Meadows.

Murray said that he thought physically Djokovic was better than him in the end, and added that he was a little bit disappointed because he did train very hard, The BBC reported.

Murray carried out a training block with his support team in Florida after a disappointing quarterfinal defeat at Wimbledon in July. He said that one does the work for these matches, so he would have liked to feel a little bit better towards the end.

Murray, who underwent back surgery following last year's US Open and missed the final months of the 2013 season, described playing Djokovic as extremely demanding.

The Briton has made at least the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slams this year, but found the world number one a step too far. He said that it is obviously different playing at that level, playing against the number one in the world, and added that the way that they play against each other, it's just an extremely physical match.

Murray said that in games against other players, for example Roger Federer, the points come quicker and it is not as demanding. He added that when he and Djokovic play against each other, one obviously sees very tight, long rallies and both of them do a lot of running.

The Scot said that maybe he would gain a lot from playing such a match, because it doesn't matter how much training one does, when one gets on the match court it's different.

Murray said that he cannot practise with the best player in the world, so it's tough to practise at that intensity. (ANI)
