Muslim body seeks justice over Babri mosque demolition

Muslim body seeks justice over Babri mosque demolitionLucknow, Dec 21 : The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has sought action against those responsible for the demolition of Babri mosque.

Addressing reporters here on Sunday, Maulana Abdul Rahim Quraishi, spokesman of the AIMPLB, welcomed the findings of Liberhan Commission report that probed the demolition and demanded a criminal charge against all conspirators.

"The Commission''s findings that Babri Mosque was demolished in consequence of the conspiracy for the crime, it is very important and material... Personal Law Board feels that the simple promise made by the government of India to the criminal cases pending in Rae Bareli and Lucknow Special Court is not enough. Hence the All India Muslim Personal Law Board demands from the government of India to include the charge of criminal conspiracy in the case," said Quraishi.

Quraishi also demanded a fresh First Information Report (FIR) or police case against all those named as conspiratiors, but not been held accused in the pending cases.

"Out of the 68 people held responsible for the offence of the demolition by the Commission, an FIR on the basis of material collected by the Commission be filed against those who have not been accused in the pending cases," he added.

The probe panel had earlier recorded the statements of senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

The Commission in its report observed that Vajpayee, Advani and Joshi should have been aware of decisions of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh''s plans to demolish the mosque structure.

The Liberhan Commission led by Justice M S Liberhan probed the circumstances that led to the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

After a prolonged inquiry that lasted over 16 years, Justice Liberhan submitted his findings to the Government of India on June 30 this year. (ANI)
