Sean Gallagher, Glenn's chief information officer, said in a press release that teams of tech-savvy citizens in Northeast Ohio are willing to present their innovative ideas on how NASA can be able to solve specific mission challenges.

NASA's Glenn Research Center has joined hands with OHTec, formerly NEOSA, in order to host the Space Apps Challenge.

The event will take place on April 10-12 in Glenn's new Mission Integration Center in Brook Park.

Organizers of the vent told that Space Apps Challenge is part of this year's OHTec Tech Week activities April 9-18.

Organizers expect that more than 5,000 participants are expected to attend Tech Week activities throughout Northeast Ohio this year.

The participants of the challenge are asked to develop mobile applications, software, data visualization and platform solutions that could contribute to space exploration mission and, ultimately, help improve life on Earth.

Four areas represent NASA mission, including Earth studies, space exploration, human health research and robotics.

Challenges in the category of earth theme would support NASA's mission to monitor Earth's vital signs from land, air and space.

Activities that fall into the Space Apps Challenge include a social gathering on Friday, April 10, where Aerospace engineer Matt Melis will discuss 'Scientific Imaging at NASA'.

Also, there will be work time on Saturday, April 11, where Research Engineer Jeff Chin will present 'An Open Model of the Hyperloop Transportation System'.

Work time will be continued on Sunday, April 12 as well, along with team presentations and awards judging. Space Apps 2015 will be streamed online for virtual participants. Throughout the event, questions will be taken on Twitter using the hashtag #spaceapps.
