Nawaz Sharif barred from contesting by-polls

Nawaz Sharif Lahore, June 23 : The three-member bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) today said that Pakistan Muslim League (N) Chief Nawaz Sharif is ineligible to contest this week’s by-elections.

Sharif was also banned from the general election in February due to his conviction in the case relating to the hijacking of Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf's plane in 1999.

"The decision is based on conspiracy. It's a political decision," said Sharif's party spokesman Siddiqul Farooq.

Unsatisfied by the verdict of the Lahore High Court, the PML-N workers shouted slogans against the government outside the High Court, according to The News. (ANI)
