Amsterdam - The Netherlands saw an influx of immigrants from the Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, according to statistics released Monday.

The Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) said in a report that some 250,000 Eastern Europeans currently reside in the country, four times more than 20 years ago.

Around 78,000 migrants from the former Yugoslavia form the largest ethnic group from the region, followed by 68,000 Polish migrants and 52,494 from the former Soviet Union, according to CBS.

Albanians make up the smallest group, with just 1,185 now living in the Netherlands.

Of the 104,000 Germans residing in the Netherlands, about 8,000 were born in the former East Germany. (dpa)
