Gelsenkirchen, Germany - Manuel Neuer is not for sale, Schalke 04 coach Felix Magath reiterated on Thursday in the wake of ongoing interest in the Germany goalkeeper from Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.
"Why should I change my opinion? I am here to have success and to win titles. And if I have Germany's best goalkeeper, who comes from this club, I will surely not give him away," Magath said.
"I am convinced that he prefers to become German champion with Schalke than with Munich."
The statements came after Munich daily tz reported that Bayern plan to contact Schalke again about Neuer on the weekend.
The paper quoted Schalke president Clemens Toennies as saying that "a sale is possible" in the case of "an amazing offer." But Toennies also said that the final decision was with Magath.
Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said recently that Munich would make another approach once Neuer returns from the under-21 European championships in Sweden where Germany were due to play a semi-final against Italy later Thursday. (dpa)
