New emission norms may take a little more timeApril 1 was earlier decided as the deadline for upgrading to BS-IV norms for 13 major cities of the country and BS-III for the other parts of country, but as there has been no official announcement from the Government, it is expected that there will be postponement in the process.

Recently, Pawan Goenka, President - Automotive sector, M&M and President, SIAM confirmed the fact that there hasn't been an official announcement from the government officials so far.

Moreover, Goenka added that Oil companies have submitted an affidavit with the Supreme Court asking for extension due to the shortage in the quality fuel for new emissions. Earlier, other automakers have also shown concern over the behavior of the government over the implementation of the new emission norms.

The automakers have also earlier shown disgrace to the fact that the cleaner fuel i. e. BS-III compliant is not available in many parts of the country. There is expected to be a lag of 3-4 months in the implementation of the new norms. Earlier, 13 cities were expected to upgrade to BS-IV that's equivalent to Euro-IV.
