New Zealand has defeated Sri Lanka by 3 runs in the first T20 match to take lead by 1-0 in the two T20 matches series on Wednesday at Colombo. New Zealand had lost the test series 2-0, and this win will boost their morale ahead of T20 match and tri-series against India and Sri Lanka.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. New Zealand team scored 141 runs for loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. R Taylor was top scorer for New Zealand. Taylor scored 60 runs in 45 balls.

Sri Lankan batsmen struggled against the bowling attack of New Zealand as except T Dilshan no other batsman was able to resist on the crease. Dilshan smashed 57 runs of just 28 balls. Sri Lankan team managed to score 138 runs for loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

J Oram took three wickets while D Vettori and I Buttler chipped in with two wickets each. D Vettori was declared man of the match.
