Nissan India’s domestic sales jump 11% year-on-year

Nissan-MotorNissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd enjoyed a year-on-year increase of 11 per cent in its domestic sales in the financial year ending March 31, 2013.

The Indian arm of Japan-based auto giant reported that it sold a total of 36,975 vehicles in the twelve months to March 31, as compared with 33,270 units in the previous twelve months.

Mid-size Nissan Sunny sedan accounted for the biggest share of the company's total sales at 24,011 units. The premium compact vehicle Micra sold 11,454 units, while urban-class utility vehicle Evalia sold a total of
1,396 units.

The 370z sports car, the Teana and the X-Trail sports utility vehicle accounted for the remaining share of the company's total annual sales.

Kenichiro Yomura, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nissan Motor India, said that the annual sales figures were in line with the company's long term strategic goals for the Indian market.

Commenting on the annual sales figures, Mr. Yomura, said, "Given the operating environment, this is a good performance. We have maintained our sales momentum in India and continue to scale up our operations in line with our long term strategic goals for the market."

Mr. Yomura added that the company had made a significant expansion in its dealer network to 95 over the past one-year period.

Meanwhile, Nissan Motor India is conducting extensive tests of a new low-cost variant of the Micra at its plant in Chennai. The low-cost variant will bridge the gap between the higher-spec trims of the Nissan Micra and the upcoming Datsun entry-level hatchback.
