Migrants in New Zealand protest Iranian election result

Migrants in New Zealand protest Iranian election resultWellington - About 150 Iranian immigrants shouting "Where is our vote?" staged a march in protest agaist the Iranian presidential election result through Auckland on Tuesday, Television New Zealand reported.

New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully issued a statement urging Iranian authorities to show restraint and expressing his government's concern at reports of mounting violence in Iran.

"Reports are still sketchy, but the allegations of government security forces shooting at unarmed protestors are particularly alarming," he said.

"Such use of force will only deepen the anger being expressed by many Iranians over whether President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's claim to victory is an accurate reflection of the vote on June 12,: McCully said.

"New Zealand shares the view of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and several European Union leaders, that the election process needs to be carefully explained."(dpa)
