100 detained protestors to be released, says Irans police chiefTehran  Irans police chief said Wednesday that 100 detained protestors would soon be released, the website of state television network IRIB reported.

Ismaeil Ahmadi-Moqaddam said that the 100 would be released within the next two days.

The police chief added that out of the more than 1,000 arrested in protests against alleged fraud in the June 12 presidential election, more than 600 had already been released.

Opposition leader Mir-Hossein Moussavi has several times called on police and judiciary authorities immediately to release all political prisoners who include dissidents, journalists, students, protestors and even former cabinet members and parliament deputies.(dpa)
