NPD Group’s June statistics: Apple grabs 91% of the over-$1,000 priced PCs sold!

APPLEAccording to the recently-released PC market’s June statistics by the NPD Group, Apple appears to be the first choice of buyers going in for an expensive computer – the Mac maker grabbed almost 91 percent of all PCs costing US$1,000 or more, sold during the month!

Apple’s PC market share in June, which demonstrates a sturdy increase in performance in the most lucrative sector of the computer business, not only improved marginally from its May share of 88 percent of over-$1,000 priced PCs; but was also a significant rise over its 66 percent share in the 2008 first quarter.

Apple had recently announced that it has sold nearly 13 percent more Macs during the last quarter, vis-à-vis the same period year-before figures; in spite of the ongoing recession and spending cuts by the price-conscious consumers.

In fact, Apple has posted record results for the June quarter, in terms of Mac unit sales, total revenue, and total profit.

Commenting on the Apple achievement, NPD analyst Stephen Baker said: “The trend in consumers is they want to spend less money. But Apple is gaining more and more share in a segment $1,000-plus that is not likely to grow.”

Baker also pointed out that since two-thirds of all computers are sold at retail, the numbers that are put forth present a fairly accurate picture of the happenings in the PC market!
