Neurological disease patients increasing in the UK, experts
Heal experts have said that the number of people suffering from neurological illness, including Parkinson's disease and motor neurone disease (MND) are increasing in the UK.
According to a new report, the number of Parkinson's disease patients will rise by 28 per cent by 2020 while MND patients is expected to increase by 27 per cent over the period. The Neurological Alliance has said that the situation will be difficult for the NHS that is made even worse by the government as it does not have any plan to deal with the issue.
Neurological Alliance chairman and Parkinson's UK chief executive Steve Ford stated: "It's not about spending more money: it's about getting good value and quality services."
The organisation representing charities working in the field said that the health servies are facing at a "neurology timebomb" as the number of people with conditions such as Parkinson's and motor neurone disease (MND) increases.
The alliance said that the health services are being managed in an haphazard way and lacks clear strategy and thus billions of pounds of taxpayers' money are being wasted. It also said that the government has its "head in the sand".
The Neurological Alliance represents more than 70 charities and organizations working in the field in the UK.
