Bhel dismisses fears over Chinese equipment import
The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (Bhel) is not longer worried over Chinese equipment imports flooding the Indian market.
RK Wanchoo, executive director of the RC Puram unit of the state-owned heavy power equipment manufacturer sad that there are not concerns now as the customers are cancelling the orders placed with Chinese firms and are returning to the BHEl for purchasing equipment.
He pointed out that the customers are cancelling orders with Chinese firms due to both quality and service issues. He said that the lower pricing, besides capacity constraints of Bhel had attracted Indian power developers to look at equipment from China.
Wanchoo also said that a large number of customers had redirected their orders to Bhel after cancelling earlier orders placed with Chinese firms. He pointed out that operation and maintenance (O&M) is very important in input power plants and is required for at least the next 25 years of the plant life.
He said that the power developers are coping for BHEL for not only the quality of its equipment but also the reliable and extensive network of its after-sale services.
