British court finds Muslim activist guilty of supporting terrorism

London - Abu IzzadeenA controversial Muslim preacher in Britain was Thursday convicted of terrorist fundraising and of inciting terrorism overseas by a jury at a trial in London.

Abu Izzadeen, a 32-year-old former electrician, and five co-defendants, will be sentenced at a later date at Kingston Crown Court.

The charges related to speeches made at London's Regent's Park mosque in November 2004, at the height of an attack by US forces on the Iraqi city of Falluja.

The court heard that Izzadeen told his audience that the US and Britain understood "only one language, the language of blood," and that the Iraq conflict was a chance to "kill the American."

At the three-month trial, Izzadeen told the jury that asking people to support terrorist organisations was illegal and that he had never done so. (dpa)
