Basu criticises West Bengal Governor’s voluntary power cuts at Raj Bhavan

Jyoti BasuKolkata, May 9 : Criticizing West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi’s self-imposed power cuts at the Raj Bhavan, Communist Party of India-(Marxist) leader Jyoti Basu said that Gandhi’s action was not in consonance with the dignity of his post and that he was "acting like a child".

"He should have consulted with the State's Power Minister, Mrinal Banerjee, and enquired about the power situation before cutting power to the Raj Bhavan," he said after a meeting here.

"It is an act against the State Government. I am openly saying he should call the minister if he has to say anything on any matter. He should do so if he really wants any good of the State," Basu added.

Gandhi had voluntarily asked for two hour power-cuts at the Raj Bhavan since Wednesday to sympathize with for the people of Kolkata who were suffering from widespread power cuts.

asu also said that the Governor's post should be abolished altogether since it was a colonial legacy. (ANI)
