London - Unemployment in Britain rose to 5.5 per cent in the three months between May and July, reaching its highest level in almost a decade, figures released Wednesday showed.

The Office for National Statistics said the number of people out of work rose by another 81,000 to 1.72 million during the three-month-period.

It represented an increase from 5.3 to 5.5 per cent. dpa
