Nokia VP Ilari Nurmi departs; reason for departure undisclosed
In a Friday confirmation, Reuters revealed that Finnish handset-maker Nokia's high profile executive Ilari Nurmi - the company's VP of product marketing - has departed; without disclosing any reason for his decision to leave the company.
The departure of Nurmi - who shouldered the responsibility for Nokia's smartphone strategy - comes within weeks of a launch event which Nokia had held in September, to unveil its two new Windows-based Lumia handsets --- Lumia 920 and Lumia 820.
The new Lumia smartphones' launch event - at which Nurmi addressed the audiences, along with other senior executives from Nokia - had reportedly disappointed the investors because of Nokia's failure in communicating either the launch details of the handsets or their expected pricing.
Moreover, the investors were also apparently displeased by the fact that the interim period between the September unveiling of the new Lumia handsets - which received rave reviews from the media - and their actual launch scheduled later in fall, was too long a wait.
Though Nokia has refrained from commenting on the circumstances which led to Nurmi's departure from the company, Nurmi himself said in a late Sunday Twitter post: "I have left Nokia. I am thankful for almost 15y there. I wish Nokia all the best and look forward to getting Lumia 920 once available."
