NTPC to pump Rs 100 billion on the setup of new plants
NTPC, the country’s largest power producer, has plans to invest around Rs 10,000 crore on the setup of its power plants, located in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The company is planning to add a capacity of over 6,000 MW in the southern region in the coming years.
A company official familiar with the latest development informed that the money will be used to augment capacity by 1,000 mw in the Simhadri plant in Andhra Pradesh and create fresh capacity of 1,000 mw in the Vallur plant at Tamil Nadu by 2010.
The power giant is presently busy in the set up of proposed power plants, which includes 4,000 MW unit at Kudgi in Bijapur of Karnataka, 1,000 MW Simhadri Stage-II near Visakhapatnam and two 500 MW units at Vallur in Tamil Nadu.
Apart from this, the company also intends to set up a 500 MW capacity wind power projects in Karnataka. The facility is expected to be completed by 2010.
Recently, the company has tied alliance with Karnataka Power Company and Karnataka Power Corporation, for 4,000 mw coal-based plant at Kudgi. The project will be executed under XII Plan.
Further, company’s coal-based power plant at Vallur is a joint venture between the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and NTPC. The power generated from this plant, is scheduled to be distributed in all southern states.
Reports suggest that NTPC is likely to incur an expenditure of Rs 5038 crore on the expansion of Simhadri power plant while, the Vallur project is expected to cost Rs 5423 crore.
