''Osama'' carnival cop apologises

Al Qaeda chief Osama bin LadenLondon, Sept 12 : A senior British police officer who had attended a Cornish village fete dressed as terror mastermind Osama bin Laden had to apologise for his insensitive act.

According to the Sun, Chief Superintendent Colin Terry in his apology insisted that he didn’t intend to cause offence willingly and his act was an error of judgment on his part.

“I should have been more careful because of my job,” added the cop.

According to The Sun, Terry wore an Osama’s mask and robes for the parade in Grampound, Cornwall, just a few days before the seventh anniversary of the September
11 attack in New York.

Terry, a Devon & Cornwall officer currently working in Afghanistan, also wore a white turban, scarf and Arab robe.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and Devon and Cornwall police said today that they would have begun misconduct proceedings if the officer had not been working at the Foreign Office.

Terry, who is on secondment to the Foreign Office, bought his Bin Laden get-up from a fancy dress shop for Saturday’s carnival in the Cornish village of Grampound, where he used to live.

The carnival was held on Saturday in the village of Grampound, where Terry lives with his family. (ANI)
