Parminder Nagra snubbed parents’ arranged marriage offer at 18

Parminder Nagra snubbed parents’ arranged marriage offer at 18Washington, May 1 : `Bend It Like Beckham' star Parminder Nagra had to face the music from her parents after she refused to agree to an arranged marriage at 18.

The 33-year-old revealed her parents had shown her a picture of a suitor, telling him to consider him as her future husband, a thought that did not go very well with the actress.

"When I was 18 my mother gave me a photo of a man and said I''d marry him," Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

"I told her then I was never going to have an arranged marriage. No one has ever forced me to do anything against my will," she added.

Nagra further said she was sure she would soon have more confrontations heading her way after she recently filmed her first sex scene for forthcoming TV movie Compulsion.

She added: "I always said I''d never do a nude scene but now I have. I know there will be a huge fuss when Compulsion comes out. It''s partly because of the fact I''m Asian. People don''t expect me to do that.

"I never expected myself to do that. I always said ''No'' and then finally I reached a point where I thought, ''It''s now or never''.

"My mum will probably disapprove but I''ll deal with that. I''m old enough now to make decisions like this." (ANI)
