Juniors doctors at a government-run hospital in Hyderabad struck work to protest an attack on them by the relatives of a pregnant woman who died while being treated.

The doctors at the Gandhi Hospital staged a protest in front of the hospital premises and demanded action against those involved in the attack.

The aggression proceeded when the doctors declared Shahjahan Begum, hailing from Bahadurpura, dead at 1 a. m. on Wednesday.

The authorities working at the hospital said that the women died of complications, because of a dead foetus. Speaking on this, B. Bala Nageswari, in-charge superintendent of Gandhi Hospital said: "The foetus was dead and she was bleeding. The duty doctors had informed her relatives about her critical condition and the risks involved."

The doctors alleged that the attackers ransacked the labour room, damaged furniture and medical equipment.

On the other hand, the attackers claimed that the woman died due to medical negligence.

The police had already registered a case in Chilkalguda station against the deceased woman's husband, Nasruddin, and others for attacking the doctors.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has promised to take stiff action against those involved in the attack. State Health Minister D. Nagender asked to the junior doctors to resume work instantly.
